VESTIGE

A textile collection exploring memory — personal, philosophical, and collective.

Memory shapes us. Over time, we gather moments: some that define us, others that burden us, and this collection becomes what we call the self. Or not, depending on your philosophical stance.

We have all found ourselves in picturesque moments, willing our minds to retain them, just as we’ve squeezed our eyes shut hoping to blank out a memory that makes us wince. But then there’s a smell, or a song, or a chance encounter that transports us back into a lived experience.

What perplexes me is how little control we have over what remains and what fades, what is consciously forgotten, yet still remembered by the body. I employ symbols, colors, and techniques that reflect this tension: the warping, the fading, sudden detail. A color palette that evokes this muddied mood, contrasted with flashes of utter clarity.

I strive to capture these memories, to either memorialize or release them. I allow positive and negative memories to surface indiscriminately, translating them into autobiographical fragments. I do not aim to reproduce the memory itself, but rather to evoke it, to let anything at all become a vessel for it. This is a process of exploration.
